Got same day Dr appointment by visiting surgery as this is easier than trying to get through via telephone. Went to the practice as soon as it opened at 8am and was able to get an appointment for 8.30am. As I was feeling unwell this was very helpful as didn't have to go home and come out again, was just able to wait in surgery for appointment.

It is virtually impossible to get an appointment on the day you need it. When I was poorly with kidney infection during second pregnancy they would not give me an appointment until my husband rang and complained. This seems to work but when you are genuinely unwell the last thing you want to do is argue with a receptionist to get an appointment. The last time I went I was given conflicting information by the Dr and reception staff. The receptionist stated that the Dr should have known and had given wrong information which made me feel uncomfortable. Even if you ring on behalf of babies or young children they will still not see you. The main problem with this surgery is the booking process and I think this needs an urgent review. I am moving surgery. My husband has had more success with the surgery but this is probably due to the fact that he has never needed an urgent appointment.

Hockley area continues to expand but meeting the demands for Doctors are not matching this growth. So trying to get an appointment on the day you need to see a doctor is very difficult if not near impossible. Often the advice from the Jones Family Practice surgery is for you to use the Southend Drop in Centre. Personally I want to see someone who knows my medical record and perhaps even knows me personally. For the last 42 years I have contributed to the NHS through Taxes and National Insurance payments so the least I expect is to getting to see a GP when we need to. However on my last visit I did notice there were a number of new doctors and I’ll be interested to see if this helps improve the appointment booking process. I have signed up to the on line booking process which has in most cases enabled me to get to see a doctor (not necessarily the one I want to see) on the day.
