The main problem is trying to contact the surgery and the time it takes for your query to be dealt with. Not only do you have to listen to an incredibly lengthy recorded message when you ring up but then you are given 6 options to which you are then met with more options. Once you do get through, the majority of the time you are either automatically placed in a cue or the phone just rings out. At one stage I held on for over 20 minutes with my phone on loudspeaker as I had another things to do. Reception staff are not always helpful. There seems to be a real lack of concern and empathy. Some are not very approachable. It wouldn't hurt to give friendly smile.
The online triage system has made thing slower not faster. You may be sending messages with no idea on when they will get back to you. Even trying to take photos of the back of your throat on you own. The receptionistist repeat the information you can find on the website. And the general response is if you are doing all the self help things that's great, keep it up. Not sure quite when they get concerned and intervene. It's not the NHS recommended timelines that's for sure. The NHS says if you have white discharge pus on your tonsils and it's been more than 4 days see your GP and they will swab. They say keep taking painkillers, numb your throat some more and keep rinsing it with salt. Child with temps of over 42 for more than 5 days and a high resp rate and heart rate. A & E doctors say triggering a PEWS chart, CXR and antibiotics. They say "children get poorly lots, don't worry about it" "keep doing what you are doing" even though it's their 6th bout and causing them to become clinically underweight. It's OK food doesn't matter when your poorly (does if you get poorly for 5 days out of every 10 though doesn't it) well not according to Priory Fields. No big picture for them. I hope they are getting presented with an award for services to protect overuse of antibiotics. I know we need to protect them but 1 use for my son age 6 (not prescribed by them) is hardly misusing them.
Where are all the doctors?
Reception is a joke, if you are lucky enough to get an answer on the phone they then spend about 15 mins asking questions which dont seem to be relayed to the medical staff because they ask all the same questions again if you are lucky enough to get a call back within a few weeks. When someone is unwell they need immediate help not after days of suffering.
The whole system is become too complicated and tying up resources unecessarily, and as for ask my gp, what a joke again and takes far to long trying to type messages back and forth over several days, not knowing if a reply has been received, the staff could be better utilised answering the phone or reception desk.
I know Nhs is under pressure but it is mostly of its own making, too much duplication and too much paperwork.
I was sad to read negative reviews about this surgery as I have had excellent care from all the staff there for the last nine years. This morning reinforced my positive experience. I phoned at 10 o'clock, after all the appointments had been allocated, and was able to see a nurse. As usual, I was treated with great kindness and respect, the nurse was knowledgeable, thoughtful and reassuring. Thank you very, very much.
Ridiculous treatment of patients. There are no gps available at the clinic at any given time and they get covered by nurses.
