Too many agency staff, HCA staff undertaking registered nurse roles (eg clinical monitoring of patients), poor acute pain control offered post operatively. Agency staff working full of flu - coughing and sneezing all over patients - didn't seam to care either! Ward dirty and run down, fabric of walls & ceilings decaying (neurosurgery ward). Splatters noted on ceilings (what else do you have to stare at for 48 hours post spinal surgery!) - these could have been coffee, rust or even dried blood! Not enough beds. Clinical confidentiallty poor in cramped and unsuitable environment. I was kept in recovery for 3 hours waiting for ward space, post elective procedure - then sent to a different ward, not used to nursing a patient with this surgery = result was a weekend of hell! Everywhere was noisy, can here everything about other patients. Operation cancelled twice, the last one with no notice!
