My father was recently treated for a hip replacement. Initially when we went to meet his surgeon everyone at the hospital was welcoming. The reception staff were lovely. However, when he went back for preops the nurse (Marcia) was abrupt, unfriendly and had no compassion at all. My father was extremely anxious which was evident and she did not show one bit of empathy. The next nurse we met was a lady called Lynn, she took my father's bloods and ECG and had a lovely bed side manner. The day of surgery we were taken to the Meridian Ward , the room was lovely and the nursing staff were all lovely, especially the wonderful Mel Brady. She really helped my father calm down and had such a lovely manner, a real credit to BlackHeath Hospital. Mr Zameer Shah and the anaesthetist came in to talk through procedure which went very well. Mr Shah came back the day after surgery to check in on my father. Wonderful surgeon ,very kind and professional. In addition, the catering staff were truly amazing, in fact, at times it felt like they were the nursing staff because the care , compassion and empathy they showed my father throughout was exceptional. Big thank you to Emma Russell, what a lovely lady and once again a credit to the hospital. Unfortunately, the first night my father was there he did not receive the best treatment from one nurse. Her manner was abrupt and uncaring, it upset my father so much he contacted me in a state at 6am from my hotel. I arrived back at the hospital at 7am in order to help him relax and cam down. I informed the nurse in charge the next day about the issues and requested that he was not looked after again by this nurse. The nurse Lorna looked after him the second night and his night was so much better and he felt listened to. Big thank you to Dave the porter. Such a warm, kind and funny man. He took my father for his xray and was lovely with him. On the day of discharge we met a lovely nurse called Claire who took the time to explain the discharge process, medication, physio and so on. The room was lovely and clean. Food was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble for catering staff. I would definitely recommended Blackheath Hospital
