When you're referred to a consultant and this leads to a requirement for treatment or an operation it's not at all clear who project manages the process. Partly it is the consultant and his secretary (setting operation dates etc) and partly the hospital (sending out admission papers etc). I received my admission papers just 3 days (1 working day) before the operation even though the date was known weeks before that which was not acceptable. Before the operation I was told that I would be discharged on the same day (provided I met the usual conditions) but in the end it was too late to see the physiotherapist (necessary for my discharge) and so I had to stay overnight. These were all process problems rather than care issues (care was fantastic) but really need to be sorted. As an outpatient for pre and post operative appointments I think the waiting area could be improved from the lines of chairs to something nicer.
