amixture of good and very bad practice.I was admitted for observation following an acute subdural haemotoma or bleed to the left side of my brain. After very good treatment with regular obs in the emergency assessment unit I was moved to a bed in a ward for the elderly suffering from various forms of dementia which I found so stressful and was anxious I may be hit on the head by the patient in the next bed. I refused to stay there and was transferred to an adjacent ward where my condition worsened over the next few days. My family repeatedly voiced their concern to the staff but were not listened. On Saturday my son refused to leave until I received a head scan and after nine hours a doctor came and agreed Iwas rushed to the Atkinson Morley for an emergency operation without which Iwould have been dead by the morning. Thankfully I survived but no thanks to the staff on the ward of the RSCH .I accept they were busy but it was basic observation and common sense. Seven different family members and friends made their concerns known including the fact I was dehydrated and it took two hours of repeated requests before a drip was put up. I was returned to RSCH after leaving intensive care and from then on received good care on the appropriate ward for my condition .
