My wife suffered horrendously during the birth of our boy, the midwife on the night shift refused to see her. We went in at midnight got sent home, back in at 3 after I insisted we go back, her contractions were over a minute long and with a 2 minute break between. She was in agony. Screaming constantly I asked her to administer the epidural and come to see my wife, she refused saying “she’s way too early in Labour I won’t see her she shouldn’t even be here she should be at home. Luckily for us another midwife started her shift, heard the screams and came to see my wife, she took one look at her and said baby is coming. At this point I was too late for an epidural and it would take too long to fill the birth pool as per our birth plan. Our boy was born at 7:50 (50 minutes after we was told she wasn’t welcome) he came out with the cord around his neck but the amazing midwife managed to get him breathing. If it was left to the first out baby would have died that day!
