I feel that the care I received during and after labour was exceptional. I had originally planned to give birth in Cheltenham as it is close to my home, however due to meconium in my waters to go to Gloucester (by the very helpful and reassuring staff at Cheltenham birth centre). My labour took about 12 hours, and during that time I was supported by Helen England. She was absolutely fantastic, very encouraging and helpful. She explained each thing she wanted to do (e.g. monitoring of the baby, injection to speed up the release of the placenta) and never put any pressure on me to do anything I didn't want to. I cannot stress enough how much better she made me feel about the whole process. I now really appreciate just how much work midwives are expected to do - even cleaning up the mess afterwards! The delivery room itself was great, really clean and comfortable with everything we needed. After the birth we were transferred to the ward, which again was clean and comfortable with very helpful staff. We were discharged when we were ready to leave and when we felt confident. Thank you to all involved, from both myself and baby Ethan. Amber Grace
