On Tuesday january 31st at 8 am I telephoned Bersted Green to make an appointment and i got through to the receptionist at 8.16 . I was given an appointment with DR Beaumont- Hutchings at 9. 10 , who decided that I required an urgent two week rule appointment with the Breast Clinic at either Worthing or Chichester hospital. The following morning i received a letter from hospital appointments, asking me to ring and make an appointment for myself, which i did ,and was given an appointment for 10 days time , which was acceptable . Ten minutes later i received another call from the same office , informing me that they had just had a cancellation for that very afternoon , and offering me the opportunity of having that appointment instead of the following week . I accepted the new appointment and was seen at St Richards hospital an hour later , when I was seen by a registrar , received an ultrasound , and was told all was well . I cannot thank Dr Beaumont -Hutchings enough for her thorough examination, her prompt referral to secondary care and the prompt response and efficiency of St Richards Hospital and the Breast Clinic . Brilliant communication between surgery and hospital and a fantastic service initiated by Bersted Green. . Thank you.

Positive - This surgery, in my opinion, has to be top of the league. In general, the whole team, from reception to Doctors are outstanding, with possibly one exception (see below). Today, 29th December, I arrived at the surgery at 0740, believing that they opened at 8. A receptionist, Vanessa, opened the door to let me know they opened at 0830. The reason for my early morning visit was that I had been up since 1.30 and have gone for 6 nights with hardly any sleep. I am suffering with a chest infection and was desperate to get some relief from the incessant coughing and great difficulty clearing my chest. Vanessa recognised my distress and immediately invited me in and made an appointment to see Mick, Paramedic, at 0900. Vanessa has the ability to prioritise and the ability to see when a patient is suffering. She has always been helpful and cheerful. Mick was also very good and, after a thorough examination, prescribed the much needed medication. Negative - Last August I had blood tests taken which showed a possible renal problem. Dr Frizell thought that the cause may be the secondary blood pressure tablets he had prescribed a few months earlier. He told me to stop taking those tablets and to return in a month for a further blood test, which I duly booked for 19th September. I was asked to make an appointment following the blood test results. Dr Frizell was aware that towards the end of September I would be going abroad for 3 weeks. On the day of the blood test I attempted to make an appointment at reception to see Dr Frizell on 22nd September, which was the day before I went away. The appointment was essential as my blood pressure had risen and I would require a further prescription before I left the country. The receptionist told me that it was not possible to book the appointment in advance and that I should ring on the day, but would not guarantee me an appointment if I did so. I explained the situation but it made absolutely no difference. It appeared that her common sense had deserted her and that she obviously thought it would be perfectly acceptable for me to go without blood pressure tablets for 2 months, while my blood pressure was rising on a daily basis and most probably peaked on the day I tried to make the appointment. The only recourse I had was to write to Dr Frizell direct, the letter was delivered by hand to the Practice. The same day I had a telephone call from the Practice with an appointment for the Thursday. It really should not have been necessary to go to these lengths to get an appointment, which I was asked to make by Dr Frizell. Other than this one incident, and this one receptionist, I am more than happy with the service and care provided by Bersted Green Surgery.

I can never pre-book an appointment, because the receptionists tell me I have to phone on the day my doctor is in and try and get an appointment that day. I don't need to be put on triage for a routine consultation such as reviewing medication. However, their website states: "You can pre-book an appointment for up to 2 weeks in advance. You have the right to express a preference of practitioner and we will always try to comply with that request, but sometimes due to annual leave, training etc, it may not always be possible to book you with the person you ask for."

This surgery is easily accessible, has a helpful receptionist service & a very broad range of GP's themselves. As a patient of this practise - have been since 2005 - I have come to fully appreciate all of those that work there, the doctors in particular. The surgery is always clean & tidy and I would not ever consider switching surgery, unless absoloutely vitally necessary.

I have just moved into the catchment area of Bersted Green Surgery and I needed to see a GP urgently. Having registered, I telephoned in for a same day appointment and after a very short wait I saw Dr Schaeper. He had to asses me as my notes had not yet been transferred from my last GP. In the circumstances I was given extra time and care (NB the surgery was busy at the time) Dr Shaeper reviewed my medication, set up a repeat prescription and even telephoned the local pharmacy to check they had my medication in stock. He also arranged a prompt referral to a community service for me. In addition, I was offered prompt appointments to see the nurse for general screening. All this was in the run up to Christmas! As a new patient (and someone new to the area) all the staff were very helpful. I am happy to give this practice full marks. Well done.
