Her areas of expertise include cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery and macular degeneration. Cataracts Over 30 years, Mahboub has gained extensive cataract surgery experience, having treated thousands of patients with this condition, achieving an extremely low complication rate. Oculoplasty Her training in oculoplasty was at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She undertakes reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, eye socket, tear ducts and skin around the eye. She also performs reconstructive oculoplastic procedures, which involve surgery to remove lesions (e.g. papilloma, cysts) from around the eye. Macular Degeneration She is highly experienced in the management and treatment of macular disorders e.g. age-related macular degeneration and diabetes related eye conditions. Miss Hawkes has held many teaching and training posts over the years, helping to educate optometrists, junior doctors and General Practitioners on many ophthalmology subjects. She has been involved extensively in the assessment of new developments in the field of ophthalmology such as new lens implants for cataract surgery and drug trials for glaucoma.
