Dr Sofia Eriksson is a consultant neurologist and honorary associate Professor at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is the hospital’s clinical lead for epilepsy as well as neurological sleep disorders. In 2019 she was elected to the council of the Association of British neurologists (ABN) and also chairs ABN’s expert panel for epilepsy. She is a member of the European Academy of Neurology’s scientific panel for Sleep-Wake disorders. She started her medical and research career in Göteborg, Sweden before joining the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy (DCEE) at the Institute of Neurology/UCL in London. She was awarded her PhD in 2003 after which she did a post doc with the DCEE before finalising her specialist training in neurology. Her special interests are epilepsy and sleep disorders. She has extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of the full spectrum of seizure disorders from first seizure clinics with unclear episodes with loss of consciousness to patients with refractory epilepsy who may benefit from epilepsy surgery. She also specialises in sleep disorders including evaluations and treatment of excessive daytime somnolence and paroxysmal nocturnal event such as sleep walking and night-terrors.
